We offer schools in the District
of Mission programs that add to
the environment component of the
education curriculum!
Mission Adopt-A-Block
Litter Audits
Our
litter audit program
allows students to take
an active role in being
responsible for the
cleanliness of their own
schoolyard. Conducting a
litter audit expands student
knowledge about litter and its
consequences on the environment.
The program consists of
the following:
- An in-class litter awareness
question period and
safety talk
- School
yard cleanup period
(including the
completion of a litter
audit)
- Evaluation
and discussion period
following the clean up.
The total anticipated
time to complete all the
activities is about
two
hours, but can be
modified to suit class
time restrictions.
We
provide all the
necessary clean-up
implements, including
safety vests for the
students to wear (an
essential safety measure
when students are around
traffic) as well as
pickers and bags.
We are happy
to discuss further
learning possibilities
which could be included
and implemented in the
classroom or throughout
the school, regarding
the problems and
solutions to the litter
issue in Mission.

Mission Adopt-A-Block
Society - Community
Barrels
As apart of
our education program,
Mission elementary
schools can participate
in a
Community Barrel
Painting event.
Each student will add
his/her special creative
touch to the special
canvass, a new garbage
barrel that will later
be placed in the
community of Mission for
all residents to view
and use.
Classes can
develop their own theme
or individual students
can share their own
environment friendly
theme to add to the
barrel. A Mission
Adopt-A-Block
coordinator will come
supervise the event,
work with the students
to come up with an
environment theme, and
finally, bring the
barrel and supply the
paints and the brushes
needed to perform the
task.

Mission Adopt-A-Block
Landfill Tours
Mission Adopt-A-Block
invites students in the
School District of
Mission to come along
with us on a fieldtrip
to Mission’s Landfill.
The
Landfill tour last
approximately two hours
and can accommodate up
to two classes per tour.
The Mission’s landfill
is a world-class example
of progressive
engineering, the
application of
environmental science
and design, and the
application of community
social planning to waste
management.
Moreover,
the landfill experience
offers a positive
environmental lesson,
promotes a great deal of
knowledge concerning
waste management
overall, it edifies
waste reduction
behaviors and fosters a
sense of social
responsibility among
students alike. A
landfill tour can be a
complimentary
contribution to the
environment component of
the education
curriculum, as it
teaches kids the
importance of social
responsibilities such as
recycling and
composting.

Mission
Adopt-A-Block’s Enviro
Girl
There’s a new girl in
town… it’s ‘Enviro Girl’
and she’s working with
Mission’s Adopt-A-Block
to fight litter. Enviro
Girl challenges the
Mission School District
and other Mission
community groups to get
involved in the battle
against the litterbugs in Mission.
Enviro Girl has been
active attending
presentations and other
important discussions to
promote Mission
Adopt-A-Block’s message
to “Keep Mission Clean”.
She has been spotted at
several community
events, such as the
Celebration of Community
and the Candlelight
Parade, community group
meetings and school
assemblies, where she
has battled her nemesis,
the nasty Litter Bug.
Keep your eye open at
upcoming events and at
your school – to witness
the on-going saga
between Enviro Girl and
the Litter Bug, as she
battles to “Keep Mission
Litter Bug Free” and to
round up more community
litter bug crime fighter
volunteers.
